Contests
The Charles Trumbull Hayden Chapter annually participates in these national contests recognizing the efforts of the youth and citizens in our community.


This contest is open to senior students of public and private high schools. Schools are invited and sponsored by individual chapters to participate in this program.


This contest is open to students in grades 5, 6, 7, and 8 attending public, private, and sanctioned home school programs. There is an assigned topic each year. Certificates and medals are awarded accordingly. Schools are invited and sponsored by individual chapters to participate in this program.


Certificates are awarded to students in grades K-12 who demonstrate exceptional work in and enthusiasm for American history. Nominations are accepted from classroom teachers. Schools are invited and sponsored by individual chapters to participate in this program.

This medal is given to students in grades 5 through 11 who fulfill the qualities of honor, service, courage, leadership, and patriotism. Students may attend accredited or non-accredited public, private, or parochial schools. Schools are invited and sponsored by individual chapters to participate in this program.


Medals and campaign bars are awarded to student cadets of outstanding ability and achievement in secondary school, junior college, college, or university ROTC programs of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and the Naval Sea Cadet Units. Selection of the students to receive the DAR ROTC awards is made by professors of military science and the principal or head of the schools.


This award recognizes worthy residents for outstanding achievement in cultural, educational, humanitarian, patriotic, and citizenship endeavor, and historical or environmental conservation. The recipient should have contributed to his/her community in a praiseworthy manner through civic and benevolent activities or acts of heroism. Individuals are invited and sponsored by individual chapters to participate in this program.
