Gila Butte Chapter
Sun Lakes, Arizona
National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution

Gila Butte (pronounced: hee-luh beaut)

Just south of Sun Lakes, AZ rises a small mountain called Gila Butte. The word Gila was encountered on old Spanish maps with a meaning ascribed to it as a steady going to or from a place. Our DAR Chapter was named Gila Butte after this geological formation which can be seen from the many homes in our area. Like most mountains or buttes, it rises surprisingly from the valley floor.

Sun Lakes, Arizona

Sun Lakes is a retirement community for people 55 and older. We are a small community with an approximate population of 16,000. Our members are primarily residents of Sun Lakes but we also serve the southern parts of the cities of Chandler and Gilbert and the surrounding area.

Our Members

The members of the Gila Butte Chapter are a welcoming and friendly group, as we have all relocated from other parts of the country and have an understanding of starting over. We count four sets of mothers and daughters among our membership.

Meetings

We meet the 3rd Wednesday of the month from October through April, except in December and April, when we meet on Saturday. See our Program Calendar for more information.
