The Sons of Confederate Veterans, founded in 1896, is a patriotic, historical and educational society of the male descendants of the men who served in the armed forces of the Confederate States of America during the War Between the States, 1861-1865. It is non-political, non-sectarian, and does not promote or condone any racial or ethnic agenda. The purpose of the SCV is to preserve and protect the history and heritage of the Confederate soldier, and to see that a true history of the War Between the States is passed on to future generations.
The Captain Granville Henderson Oury Camp 1708 was chartered in 1995 and serves the eastern half of Arizona's Valley of the Sun. Members come from east Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Apache Junction and other East Valley communities.
The 18th Annual Arizona Division Reunion & Convention will be held on 2 June 2012 at the Safford Elks Lodge, 501 S. Gila Avenue, Safford. It will be hosted by the Pvt. Nathan Terry Wanslee Camp 2096. complete details are available on the Division website. The business session begins at 10:00 AM with lunch served at 12:30. All SCV members, UDC members, OCR members, prospective members and guests are welcome. Reservations are required. Camps will be holding silent auctions and this is an election year of the Division Commander, Lt. Commander and Brigade Commanders.
The Camp 1708 meets the second Thursday each month at 7:00 PM. The Regular Business Meeting
is held at Denny’s Restaurant, 1343 W. Broadway, Tempe, AZ. Denny's is located on the
South side of Broadway just East of the intersection of Priest Drive and Broadway Road
Meetings are open to anyone interested..
