Thatcher -- Arthur F. Zent, 71, died Sept. 30, 1980, at his home. He was a retired federal corrections officer. Wife, Ena; sons William and Dan; daughter, Virginia Hall; 10 grandchildren. Safford Funeral Home. 10/2/1980.
ZOLIN, JohnScottsdale -- John S. Zolin, 71, a retired machinist, died Oct. 7, 1980, in Scottsdale Memorial Hospital. Mr. Zolin, 6801 E. Jackrabbit, came here in 1971 from Arkansas. He is survived by sons, Albert and John, Jr.; three grandchildren; a brother and two sisters. Messinger Mortuary made private arrangements. The Arizona Republic Wednesday, October 1, 1980.
ZYLSTRA, Bernard R.Scottsdale -- Bernard R. Zylstra, 65, a retired vice president of the Arizona Bank who was credited with developing the first computerized banking in the state, died Oct. 6, 1980, in Scottsdale Memorial Hospital. Mr. Zylstra had been president of the Institute of Bank Administration and taught for the Arizona Institute of Banking. He worked for the Farmer & Stockman Bank after coming to Arizona in 1952 from Glenview, ILlinois. The Farmer & Stockman Bank later merged with the Bank of Douglas and subsequently became the Arizona Bank. Mr. Zylstra, 8145 E. Camelback, was born in Chicago and had been in banking 50 years. He was a member of Phoenix Elks Lodge 335. Surviving are his wife, Laverne; daughter, Lynne Kulik; two grandchildren and three brothers. Memorial Services will be today in Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School. The Arizona Republic Thursday, October 9, 1980.
