The Mogollon Chapter name was given in respect and high esteem of the Mogollon Rim Country with its majestic mountains, beautiful lakes, its climate, wildlife, and its purity of air.
Juan Ignacio Florin Mogollon was governor of New Mexico Territory from 1712-1715 and encouraged and aided in the study of early Indians, who were in America more than 2000 years ago. They were known as The Mogollon Culture moving into Arizona about 200 B.C. The Mogollon name was given in honor of the man, to the people and to the Rim Country across Arizona.
The Bald Eagle, the national bird of the United States, has nesting sites in the Mogollon Rim country. Those of us who have had the privilege of viewing these majestic creatures as they soar above the tops of the tallest pines and firs in our landscape will never forget the thrill and our sense of connection to the history of our country.
