DILDA, DENNIS

Arizona Weekly Journal-Miner 3 February 1886 p 3.5

The Place of Execution

The scaffold to be used in the execution of D. W. Dilda on Friday, was loaded on a wagon this morning and taken to the ravine about one mile west of town, where the execution will take place, Sheriff Mulvenon having decided to accede to the request of a number of citizens not to have the execution in the plaza.

Philip Richardson, who originally built the structure, has been given the contract for placing it in position.

Dilda seems to have a full realization of his position, but when asked by Sheriff Mulvenon if he desired to see a minister, he replied in the negative.  He refuses to talk to any of the officers on the subject of his crime or about his previous history.  Sheriff Mulvenon will to-morrow purchase a new suit of clothes for him, and will have him shaved and his hair cut, preparatory to the last scene of his life on Friday.  He will be place in his cell to-night, and kept there until taken from it on Friday for execution.  Heretofore he has had the freedom of the corridor, under a guard.
