JAMES S. HAYES
September 3, 1856-February 6, 1914
Mr. James S. Hayes died at his home in Picacho, Pinal County, Arizona, Friday, February 6, 1914, of paralysis, after an illness of seven weeks, and the remains were laid to rest in the Arizola cemetery Sunday, February 8 at 3 p.m., services were conducted by Rev. Henderson of the Presbyterian church, at the cemetery, where many kind friends had gathered to hear the last sad rites.
Mr. Hayes was born at Freeport, Cowlitz county, Washington, September 3, 1856, and at the time of his death was fifty-seven years, five months and three days. He united with the Christian church when a boy and renewed his vows at Long Beach, California, where he, with his whole family, have their membership in the Christian church.
In 1881, he was united in marriage to Julia C. Vowell, and three children were born to this union: Mrs. Arthur Rice, Miss Margaret Hayes and Bird W. Hayes, deceased.
Deceased came to Casa Grande Valley in May 1913, and with his family settled on a homestead one mile from Picacho station, at which place he was residing at the time of his death.
He was a kind and loving husband and father, and was loved by all who knew him, ever ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in sickness and trouble, and of a loving and forgiving nature.
Dearest father thou has left us,
Gone to be with God above;
Here on earth we mourn together,
'Til we hear the call "come home."
