In preparation for a trip this winter, I am beginning a search for the town or village that my g.g. grandfather came from on Sao Jorge. His name was Victor Joseph LEONARD. He used the name Victor JOSEPH at various time in the early years of living in Provincetown ,Mass. He arrived in Provincetown somewhere between 1870 and1880; the documents I have are not consistent. His wife was Henriquette ALVES LEONARD also of Sao Jorge. They were most likely married in the Azores ; our local church has no record of their marriage here. I am assuming that his name was originally LEONARDO. There is a strong possibility that he was of the MACHADO lineage as we are among the families here in Massachusetts which have the inherited disorder Machado Joseph Disease. Is there a village or parish of Sao Jorge where the Leonardo Family predominates? His parents are listed as being
Richard R. LEONARD and Barbarie LEONARD.

Thank you for your help,

We are looking for any information on my Great Great Grandparents. Their names are Antonio PEREIRA GOULART(E) who was married to Ricarda FRANCISCA(O?) and lived in Faial. They were parents to Jose PEREIRA GOULART(E) who emigrated to the US in the late 1890's. Jose was believed to have been born in 1883. He married Maria Thereza SOUSA in Providence, RI in 1904. We are also looking for her parents. Her fathers name is Mariano SOUSA. We are unclear of her mothers name, though we believe Maria is her first name. Her last name looks as though it may start with and I, L or T and seems to end with cao, however the middle is illegible. They lived in Sao Miguel. The only record we have of her mothers name is a photocopy of the handwritten marriage license for Maria Thereza and Jose. Maria Thereza was born about 1890 and emigrated to the US around 1901. We believe Jose came alone while we believe Maria Thereza came with her parents or relative. Jose and Maria Thereza married in 1904, but by 1905 (the birth of their first daughter) they were going by the names Joseph and Theresa Perry and moved back and forth from Onset, MA, USA and Bristol, RI, USA before finally settling in Cambridge, MA, USA. They are impossible to track from any point before their wedding because they changed their names back and forth often. We cannot find their immigration information, and are not sure which port either one came into. We do not even know their exact birth dates. They both have listed July 28, but the years for both of them vary depending on the documents. We know this may be a total shot in the dark, but if anyone has any information on any of the people mentioned above, please contact us~ m2perry@yahoo.com, thank you! (17 Sep 2007)

I am looking for information about my two grandfathers: Manuel Machado SOARES born in Vila das lajes do Pico, Azores in 1874,illigetimate son of Anna Francisca Machado and married to Marcelina GASPAR Soares, the illigitimate daughter of Maria Jacinta Silviera. Manueal was a whaler. They immigrated to the US in 1903 (according to census data). I am looking for information on the ship they immigrated on and the year and any information concerning their parents.
I am also looking for information on my maternal grandfather Jesse FERREIRA, birthdates are unclear since he lists different dates in 1920 census (June 5, 1879) and the 1930 census (dec 1881). He was married to Mary Conception SOUZA, born 7 July 1875. Census data places her birthdate at 1883. They were married at Santa Clara Church in Faial, San Miguel. I would like to know where Jesse came from, his real birthdate, his mother's maiden name and the date of their marriage, believed to be abt 1900.
