GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
Jan. 17, 2008

BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT:  Buzz Brooks, Director, Evelyn Karwoski, A.Director, Pat Brownson, Secretary  & Al Seames Treasurer.

Director Buzz called the meeting to order at 3:30 P.M. with Eleven (five new) members present.

Buzz presented the Agenda for this meeting. 

Secretary’s report: The December 2007 meeting (Twelve members present) minutes were read by Evelyn and approved.

Treasurer’s report: The general fees fund as of Jan.17 is $163.26

Library report: Pat explained the procedure for checking out library materials.

Planning Board report: Buzz appointed the following new board for 2008: Maxine Ludeke, Chairperson and members Anne Marie Peters, Carol Parker, Al Seames and Pat Brownson.

OLD BUSINESS: 

1. Pat spoke about the pitfalls of  “Family Tree Version 2008”
2. Pat talked about the use of Heritage Quest site.

 NEW BUSINESS:

1. Five new members joined our group: Jane Gallegos, Tom Lucas, Peter Monahan, Anne Marie

                     Peters and Bonnie Thomas.  Each received a new member information brochure

1. Evelyn mentioned a new site exists for “unknown pictures”.
2. Al  Seames talked some LDS genealogy records are in bad shape but this is being updated.
3. Pat mentioned there is a new Internet site for kid’s genealogy.

PRESENTATION: Al Seames gave the following presentation: “Finding  & Accessing Cemetery Records”.
Al gave several examples of researching Church Funeral records, Death Certificates and Obituaries. Al mentioned several additional sources such as the Family History library films, the US Gen web Cemetery project and public libraries. Actual travel to the cemeteries can be quite productive. Al related his actual experiences in researching his kin.  Al had a Q. & A. session following the presentation.

AROUND THE TABLE: Each member discussed items of interest while researching their family tree.


Next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 21, 2008 at 3:30 P.M. in the Sunflower Village Center.

Buzz closed the meeting at 5:00 P.M.
