Welcome to the website of the Tombstone Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. Our chapter serves Sierra Vista, Bisbee, Douglas, Elfrida, Hereford, and Tombstone, Arizona, and the surrounding areas. In October of 2009, our chapter celebrated its 40th anniversary.
The Tombstone Chapter strives to embody the DAR motto of "God, Home, and Country." We also embrace our NSDAR objectives of Historic Preservation, Promotion of Education, and encouragement of Patriotic Endeavour.
About Sierra Vista
Our town is located seventy-five miles southeast of Tucson in Cochise County, southeastern Arizona.
The name of our town, Sierra Vista, is taken from the Spanish "Vista de la Sierra" or "Mountain View,"
referring to the beautiful surrounding Huachuca, Dragoon and Mule Mountain Ranges. In 2006, Sierra Vista celebrated our
50th anniversary.
Nearby Ramsey Canyon and its nature preserve is home to more species of hummingbirds than can be found anywhere else in the world. Sierra Vista is known as "The Hummingbird Capital of the United States."
Sierra Vista also encompasses historic Fort Huachuca, an active military base, and home to the Buffalo Soldiers Cavalry.
Our Name
Our chapter is named for Tombstone, a town located thirty miles northeast of Sierra Vista, where our meetings were first held in 1969. Tombstone is known as the location of the "OK Corral," and famously called "The Town Too Tough to Die."
How can I join?
Any woman is eligible for membership who is no less than eighteen years of age and can prove lineal,
blood line descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence.
