1680 July 21 Agreement between Greenfield Larabee and Richard Cooke.
Greenfield Larabee o f Norwich, Colony o fConnecticut, County of New
London, with the consent of Allice my wife do pass over as a deed of
gift, unto Richard Cooke of Stonington, County New London, Colony of
Connecticut, his heirs and assigns forever, 30 acres of land, laid as
it now is, adjoining to my land over the Showtucket River, where my
dwelling house is, lying upon the south side of said land. The west
end runs like a poynt to a great marked tree near a great brooke and
to a path, that leads to Norwich; bounded on the norht by Larrabee's
land and south by the commons.
In consideration where of sd Richard Cooke doth engage to com and
bring his family and live upon sd land at least five years before he
hath the liberty to sellit. If God shall please to give him life and
if sd Cooke remove from sd land before the time specified, then sd
land shall be returned to sd Larrabee again, he paying sd Cooke for
his labor bestowed upon it. prized by two men mutually chosen by both
of them; and if sd Cooke shall die before the term of five years be
expired then his widow if she be living is to fulfill the engagment
either by herself, or some comfortable tenant. Upon this consideration
sd Greenfield Larabee, doth pass over his whole right to sd land and
if sd Cooke wishes to sell the land then Larrabee is to have the
liberty to buy it before any other person, he paying as much as any
other would.
Upon an after consideration it is mutually agreed between the two
Larabee and Cooke, that if Richard Cooke and his wife die before the
term of five years then the land shall belong to the hiers of the sd
Cooke.

gift dated July 21, 1680 is record from Greenfield Larabee to Richard
Cooke of Stonington, of thirty acres of land, over Showtucket, where
my now delling house is provided he removes and dwells upon it.
Richard Cooke accepted the conditions, was afterward admitted as an
inhabitant, and had other lands granted by the town.
