Membership
Membership in the Kelowna and District Genealogical Society provides its members
with four issues of its newsletter, free queries, use of the materials in its
library, research nights for sharing and learning, and general meetings with
interesting genealogical topics. The membership year runs from September to
June. There are no meetings during the summer months. Current Membership Fees
are $25 per Annum for individuals and $30 for a family membership.
Location
Meetings are held at Hawthorn Park, 867 KLO Road.
Follow this link for more information and a map.
Library
The Kelowna and District Genealogical Society Library provides members with
books and newsletters on a wide range of genealogical topics from most areas of
the world. A list of holdings is available to members. The library is open to
the public, but only members may borrow materials. Library hours
and our inventory list are posted on
our library page.
Classes
Informal classes are available during regular meetings and on some library
nights to those individuals seeking to begin searching their family roots.
Speakers during the monthly meetings provide further information on diverse
genealogical topics. Occasionally, seminars or workshops are planned. These
usually have a minimum fee to both members and non-members.
The newsletter of the Kelowna and District Genealogical Society is known as the
Okanagan Researcher. It is published four times per year and includes
articles of interest to the members, family history and historical research for
the area, and pioneer information. Reports and articles of interest to the
membership are welcomed, particularly those dealing with family history
research, pioneer families, or history of the Okanagan Valley, particularly the
Kelowna and immediate area.
Queries
Queries are encouraged and are free for members. Non-members wishing to place
queries should enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope if they wish to
receive a reply from the Society Queries Coordinator. A fee of $20.00 is
required to cover the cost of postage, photocopying and other expenses. Any
surplus will be a donation to the Society Library. Please indicate if you wish
the query to be included in the Okanagan
Researcher. Queries for the newsletter are free of charge, and subject to
available space.
