The following write up is from Alice Anglim:
Joseph Richards left Cornwall England in 1849. He reportedly returned to England, and shortly afterwards, returned with his dog to the Westhome area, purchasing property and settling in about 1860. on the 'Richards Trail' or Richards Road (as the name seems to have been changed).
The following is from research by Dennis Richards
20 years after Joseph Richards Sr. settled in to his farm, he bought the property formerly owned by Mr. Richardson (killed by Indians) closer to the Westholme Rd. and Mt. Sicker Rd. intersection, between the RR tracks and Bonsell Creek.
One record shows him from Helston, Cornwall England. I cannot substantiate this at this time (2003).
Joseph Richards is buried in the Methodist Pioneer Cemetery on Herd Rd. in plot number 37 next to Grace Ann Symons (Richards, Newhouse).
