Mary Elizabeth Rappé
April 30, 1917 - January 12, 2009
Mary Elizabeth Rappé was born April 30, 1917 in Powell, Wyo. the daughter of Robert Dee and Emma Adaline (Farnsworth) Livingston. She passed away in Cortez on Monday, January 12, 2009 at the age of 91 after a lengthy illness.
Mary, a resident of Boulder, Colo. since 1960, recently resided in a nursing facility near her son, Mark in Cortez, Colo. She loved Boulder, her home in Arapahoe Heights, The First United Methodist Church in Boulder, the Christian Women United, the Retired Officer’s Wives Club, her PEO Chapter EY, her art pursuits, gourmet cooking, and Bridge Club entertaining. Mary and Logan enjoyed extensive travel tours and going to sites for genealogy research and searching for antiques.
Mary graduated from Denver North High School in 1934 being active in Thespians, attended Denver University during World War II raising a baby daughter while her husband served in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre. She was an Army officer’s wife for over 20 years living on or near posts in Kansas, Germany, Arkansas, Alaska and California. Mary continued her college course work from universities in Arkansas, Alaska and C. U. Boulder. After raising two children, she worked for over 10 years as an Administrative Assistant at the President’s Office of the University of Colorado Boulder Campus for the Board of Regents Secretary Don Saunders, and for President Quigg Newton and President John R. Smiley.
Preceding Mary in death were her parents, Robert and Emma Livingston; five siblings; and husband of 60 years, Colonel Logan R. Rappé.
She is survived by her daughter, Melodie Francis and husband, Jim of Arvada, Colo.; son Mark Rappé and wife, Pat of Cortez; four grandsons, Jared Francis and wife, Laurie of Rio Rancho, N.M., Gregory Francis and wife, Jessie of Arvada, Colo., and Blaine Rappé and wife, Robin of Loveland, Colo.; and three great grandchildren, Liberty Rappé, Wyatt Rappé and Honor Rappé.
Graveside services for Cortez resident Mary Elizabeth Rappé were held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, January 19, 2009 at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colo.
Services were under the direction of Ertel Funeral Home.
