Katherine Beattie Lindeke Lukoskie 3 November 1920 - 19 June 2009 Katherine Beattie Lindeke Lukoskie, 88, of Boulder died Friday 19 June 2009 at her residence. She was born on November 3, 1920, in Seattle, Washington, to Della Boyle Beattie and Simon Kenneth Beattie. She attended Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. She married C. Bruce Lindeke in Hollywood, California, 4 September 1942. He died in 1981 in Boulder. She later married Martin J. Lukoskie in Ocean City, Maryland, on 3 March 1984. He died in 2008 in Boulder. She was active in many organizations: Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, Boulder Community Hospital Auxiliary, Boulder Country Club, Boulder Forum Republican Women, Boulder Genealogical Society, Boulder Museum of History, Colonial Dames of America in Colorado, Colonial Dames XVII Century, Daughters of Colonial Wars, Daughters of American Colonists, Devils Thumb Study Club, Fortnightly Club, Historic Boulder, National Charity League, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (Arapahoe Chapter), P & G Investment Club, Sierra Club, and the YMCA Board. She was a member of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, Boulder. She was President of Bolind, Inc. since 1981, a mail order company. She and her husband moved Bolind, Inc. to Boulder in 1960. She enjoyed researching and cataloging all of the old cemeteries and old burials in Boulder County and traveling worldwide. Children are Bruce F. Lindeke of Boulder, CO, a foster son, James D. Clamon of Thornton, CO. Grandchildren are Kimberly C. Ray of Beaverton, OR, David Bruce Ray of Beaverton, OR, Nina Katherine Lindeke of Thornton, CO, Grace Caroline Lindeke of San Diego, CA, Amanda Jane Lindeke of Denver, CO, and Alexander James Lindeke of Boulder, CO, a great grand daughter India Rose of Thornton, CO. A daughter, Christine Lindeke Ray and a grandson, Jesse Bruce Lindeke preceded her in death. A visitation was held 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 26th at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 3300 Table Mesa Drive, Boulder, CO. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 1:30 p.m. followed by a reception at the church. Elmer G. Poenack 12 November 1927 - 30 May 2009 Elmer G. Poenack, 81, of Boulder, died Saturday, 30 May 2009 at his residence. He was born on 12 November 1927 in St. Louis, Missouri to Elmer E. and Elsbeth (Boesel) Poenack. He received his B.A. from Westminister College, his M.A. in German from CU Boulder, and a degree in Librarianship from DU in Denver. He served in the U.S. Army Field Artillery from 1953-1954. He was an Instructor at the Missouri School for the Blind. He retired as a Reference Librarian from the CU Library in Boulder. He was a resident of Boulder since 1957 and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. A Memorial Service was held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 9th at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2200 Broadway in Boulder. Stewart 30 August 1909 - 22 April 2009 Hugh Jefferson Stewart was born 30 August 1909 in Deadwood, South Dakota and passed April 22, 2009 in Boulder. He graduated from high school in 1927 in Tacoma, Washington and from Oregon State University in 1933 with a BS in Forestry. Upon graduation from OSU he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserves. Hugh married Lenore Lofthus 22 December 1934 in St. Paul, Minnesota, while working as a Technical Forester in the North Woods. In 1941 he was called to active duty and spent the next 20 years in the Army, serving in Iran, Japan, Korea, Germany and stateside. During the Korean War, Hugh was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service. He retired from the 1st Region U.S. Army Defense Command in August 1961 at Fort Totten, Long Island, New York. Following military retirement, Hugh and his family moved to Boulder where he worked 10 years as a Technical Writer/Editor/Planning Officer for the National Bureau of Standards, retiring in 1971. He was President of the Boulder Genealogical Society and the Men’s Garden Club. He was a board member of the Boulder Philharmonic and sang in the University of Colorado’s Festival Chorus for 16 years. An avid outdoors man, he loved to fly fish, hunt, ski, hike and climb (in Japan he climbed Mt. Fuji). Hugh also loved tennis, golf and gardening. Hugh and Lenore attended St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church where he served on the Vestry as Secretary and Jr. Warden; helped maintain the church grounds; sang baritone in the choir for 16 years; and served as Lay Reader and Lay Eucharistic Minister. Hugh was a member of St. Aidan’s for 48 years. From 1996 until he passed away, Hugh enjoyed life as a member of the Frasier Meadows Retirement Community. Lenore preceded him in death. Hugh’s brother Bob lives in Denver. Hugh has two daughters, Jennifer Stewart and Anne Stewart, both married and living in Colorado. He has four grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held at St. Aidan Episcopal Church in Boulder on Saturday, 9 May 2009 at 1:00pm. Burial took place at Fort Logan National Cemetery on 27 April 2009. [Editor’s Note: Hugh J. Stewart was a charter member of Boulder Genealogical Society.] George Scott Bragg March 25, 1929 - January 24, 2009 George Scott Bragg, of Boulder, Colorado, passed away peacefully at his home on January 24, 2009. He was 89 years old. George was born March 25, 1929, in Longmont, Colorado to George Thomas Bragg and Mary (Mosher) Bragg. His mother passed away when he was very young and he was raised by his father and his second wife, Anna Miller Bragg. George graduated from Longmont High School, earned a B. A. from the University of Colorado and served in the United States Army during WWII. After his honorable discharge from his duty station in Japan, George returned to Colorado where he worked for several years with the Selective Service office and draft board in Denver. He later moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico and worked at the White Sands Missile Range. George later returned to Colorado and worked until retirement at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder. Mr. Bragg enjoyed playing tennis in local tournaments, and traveling. He was an avid reader, enjoyed playing the piano and attending theater productions. He will be remembered for his kindness and his willingness to assist people in need. He was preceded in death by his parents, but is survived by his sister, Irene Bragg of Longmont. Cremation arrangements have been handled by Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services, Longmont. A private service was held at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Longmont Humane Society, 9595 Nelson Road, Longmont, CO 80501. [Editor’s Note: George Bragg was a past BGS librarian and donated many books to our collection and recently made a large donation of materials to Carnegie Library.] Mary Elizabeth Rappé April 30, 1917 - January 12, 2009 Mary Elizabeth Rappé was born April 30, 1917 in Powell, Wyo. the daughter of Robert Dee and Emma Adaline (Farnsworth) Livingston. She passed away in Cortez on Monday, January 12, 2009 at the age of 91 after a lengthy illness. Mary, a resident of Boulder, Colo. since 1960, recently resided in a nursing facility near her son, Mark in Cortez, Colo. She loved Boulder, her home in Arapahoe Heights, The First United Methodist Church in Boulder, the Christian Women United, the Retired Officer’s Wives Club, her PEO Chapter EY, her art pursuits, gourmet cooking, and Bridge Club entertaining. Mary and Logan enjoyed extensive travel tours and going to sites for genealogy research and searching for antiques. Mary graduated from Denver North High School in 1934 being active in Thespians, attended Denver University during World War II raising a baby daughter while her husband served in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre. She was an Army officer’s wife for over 20 years living on or near posts in Kansas, Germany, Arkansas, Alaska and California. Mary continued her college course work from universities in Arkansas, Alaska and C. U. Boulder. After raising two children, she worked for over 10 years as an Administrative Assistant at the President’s Office of the University of Colorado Boulder Campus for the Board of Regents Secretary Don Saunders, and for President Quigg Newton and President John R. Smiley. Preceding Mary in death were her parents, Robert and Emma Livingston; five siblings; and husband of 60 years, Colonel Logan R. Rappé. She is survived by her daughter, Melodie Francis and husband, Jim of Arvada, Colo.; son Mark Rappé and wife, Pat of Cortez; four grandsons, Jared Francis and wife, Laurie of Rio Rancho, N.M., Gregory Francis and wife, Jessie of Arvada, Colo., and Blaine Rappé and wife, Robin of Loveland, Colo.; and three great grandchildren, Liberty Rappé, Wyatt Rappé and Honor Rappé. Graveside services for Cortez resident Mary Elizabeth Rappé were held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, January 19, 2009 at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colo.
