The British Isles Family History Society - U.S.A. maintains a large research collection at the Los Angeles Regional Family History Center. This section is a guide to the Isle of Man portion of that collection, however many of the materials listed are available from the Family History Library through Family History Centers worldwide.
The resources listed in the "Isle of Man" section are to be used in addition to the resources in the "General British Isles" section.
A. Finding Places: Maps and Gazetteers
Landranger Map Series. The Isle of Man is on Map number 95 of this series. See the description of this source here.
Lewis, Samuel. A Topographical Dictionary of England (4 vols.) is an excellent gazetteer that gives locations and descriptions of places in England, the Channel Islands, and Isle of Man. Published in 1831, book number 914.2 L588. This Gazetteer is also available on microfilm #413,519 - 413,522 for other Family History Centers.
Phillips Handy Atlas of the Counties of England includes maps of the Isle of Man. FHL film #1,440,961.
Woods, A New Atlas and Gazetteer of the Isle of Man: Consisting of seventeen highly finished maps, civil and ecclesiastical boundaries of each parish, and the boundaries of the several baronies, freeholds and quarterlands. FHL film #896,641, item 1.
B. Civil Registration
Compulsory civil registration for births and deaths began in 1878. Civil registration of marriages began in 1884. Indexes to civil registration are on the following microfilms.
