Seminar Topics Presented by Darris Williams
Hidden Treasures in FamilySearch™
FamilySearch™ provides familiar sources such as the International Genealogical Index (IGI), but new, less-known resources have recently been made publicly accessible. Maps, digitized books, new databases and other research assistance that are now available online will improve your access to information and save you money. Come and learn how to dig a little deeper for some of the hidden treasures at FamilySearch™.
The FamilySearch™ Community: Wiki and Forums
Collaboration is a critical activity for family historians. New technologies improve the way we can interact and work together for better results. FamilySearch™ provides tools specifically designed to increase access to research assistance for all areas of the world. FamilySearch™ forums and wiki offer a free repository for the world’s best research advice.
British Records Online: Past, Present and Future
FamilySearch™ has made the transition from a microfilm processing organization to a digital image processing organization. With this change, come some challenges and great opportunities. The future for online research will improve dramatically as societies, archives, libraries, commercial companies and FamilySearch™ continue to work on new and exciting projects.
Touring the British Isles Online: 18th – 19th Century Travel Accounts
Context is king when trying to learn about the lives of our ancestors. Solving genealogical roadblocks may require more than searching additional record sets. Understanding the context in which your ancestor lived helps add flesh to the bones of a dry family chart and will guide you to understanding what made your family who they are. Seeing your ancestors in a different light will enable you to approach brick walls in new ways that will change your experience and research results.
