British Isles Family History Society – U.S.A.

English Study Group

Leader: Donald L. Hirst

The English Study Group of the British Isles Family History Society – U.S.A. was formed in January 1988. Its purposes are

  • to help researchers of English descent with their individual family histories,
  • to learn about the unique record sources of England,
  • to discover more about the lives of our ancestors through the study of English history and culture, and
  • to acquire materials that will increase our English research collection.

BIFHS–USA does not maintain a separate library, but has donated its research materials to the Los Angeles Regional Family History Center, where they may be consulted free of charge. The call number for library holdings on England is 942.

Group Meetings

The English Study Group holds periodic meetings after the monthly general meetings of BIFHS–USA at the Los Angeles Regional Family History Center located at 10741 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles. Meeting dates and topics are announced in the newsletter and included in the meetings listing on this website. Any BIFHS-USA member may join the English Study Group with no extra fee required.

All meetings are free of charge, though members may occasionally be asked to help defray the costs of class handouts. The English Study Group does not charge any membership or consultation fees. Meeting attendees are free to conduct personal research in the world-renowned collection of English materials at the Los Angeles Regional Family History Center. The Study Group Leader and other members will be available to consult about individual research.
