Welsh Study Group

Welsh Lion

 The Welsh Study Group of the British Isles Family History Society – U.S.A. was formed in February 1996. Its purposes are

  • to help researchers of Welsh descent with their genealogy;
  • to find and acquire resources for Welsh research in the USA, Canada, Wales and the U.K. which would be of benefit in finding one’s ancestors;
  • to learn more about Wales, its people, culture and history; and
  • to learn more about the Welsh in America.

Group Meetings

The group meets occasionally at the Los Angeles Family History Center, 10741 Santa Monica Blvd., West Los Angeles, right after the BIFHS-USA general meeting. See the BIFHS-USA meetings page for information on upcoming meetings. The Welsh Study Group meets from 3:30PM to 5:00PM. Everyone is welcome at any of the meetings and there is no charge.

Research Materials

BIFHS–USA does not maintain a separate library, but has donated its research materials to the Los Angeles Family History Library, where they may be consulted free of charge. The call number for library holdings on Wales is 942.9. Over the years, the members of the Welsh Study Group have donated a number of books and fiche to the LAFHL. We have an "on-going fund" to purchase these items.

Research Assistance

BIFHS-USA members requiring help in finding a Welsh ancestor can contact welsh@bifhsusa.org for advice
For many years the Welsh Study Group was led by Annie Lloyd, who, sadly, passed away in August 2012.
