
The Bermuda Historical Society Museum is housed in "Par-La-Ville", the home of William Bennet Perot, a former postmaster of Bermuda. It was built in 1814 by his father, William Perot, a Hamilton merchant.. The museum is owned and operated by the Society, a non-profit organization founded in 1895, actively promoting interest in Bermuda's history.
The holdings include a large number of portraits and miniatures, as well as antique furninshings. Portraits include Sir George Somers, Mrs William Hall nee Dorcas Durham painted by Robert Feke c1750, William Bennet Perot and wife Susanna nee Stowe, William Morris of Lane House, Hamilton with wife and daughter (painted by Lucius Munson), Mrs John Stowe, a painted miniature of James Crawford, 18th century governor. Also included is a miniature painted on ivory by Captain John Eveson while a captive in Guadaloupe in 1777.
Museum is open 9:30am - 3:30pm Mon - Fri. It is located on Queen St, Hamilton, Pembroke.
