Minutes of HM Council: 7 November 1727
Att a Council holden at the house of Mrs Margaret Zuill in St Georges on Tuesday the 7th November 1727.

This day Samuel Smith was sworn Clk of the Council... then Thos Burton Esq was qualified as Attorney General by taking the ususal oaths to a late proclamation of His present Majesty King George the Second.
Then was read the petition of Benjamin Smith of Boston relating to a libel taken up and cop'd by him, as also the deposition of Mr Edwd Bromwich relating to same.
It is thereupon the unanimous opinion of this board that the said Benjamin Smith be taken into custody of the Provost Marshall untill he enters into recognizance of one hundred pounds before two of His Majesties Justices of the peace for his personal appearance at the next Gen Court of Assizes in order for a further presentation by the Attorney General.
Then was read the affidavit of Mr Benj Smith relating to the said libell... it is thereupon the unanimous opinion of this Board that the aforesaid Edwd Bromwich likewise enters into recognizance of one hundred pounds before two of His Majesties Justices of the Peace for his personall appearance at the next Genl Court of Assizes and in case of his refusall
or delaying to give such security, it shall and may be lawfull for the Justice to committ him to His Majesties Gaol in St Georges forthwith whereas it appears to this Board by the two depositions aforesaid (Mr Edw Bromwich and Mr Benj Smith) that Rich Stone of Hamilton Tribe joyner was concerned in publishing of a mallitious lybell- it is therefore
the unanimous opinion of this Board that the said Richd Stone doth forthwith enter into recognizance as aforesd before Richard Jennings and Perient Trott Esq Justices of the Peace for his personall appearance at the next general Court of Assizes, concerning the libell aforesd and in case of his refusal to give such security, forthwith, it shall and may be lawfull for the said justices to committ him to His Majesties Gaol in St Georges.
Ordered that Maj Nath Butterfield the treasurer do upon application of the overseers of the fortifications, pay into their or either of their hands the sum of one hundred pounds out of the money raised by an Act instituted an Act for raising a sum of money for the speedy repairing of the Castle and other fortifications that's reapird.
Upon reading the petition of Capt John Cox purporting the want of a horse boat, ordered that the hors-boat now in use, be with all speed sheathed and repaired in the best manner that the said Cox can, till such time as provision can be made for the building of a new one.
Adjourned to the afternoon.
Eodem Die, in the afternoon the Council sat.
Present: the Honrble, the President and the same members that was in the forenoon. Upon complaint of Rob Dinwiddie Esq agianst Jonathan Vardill of Sandy's Tribe mariner in reference to some words said to be spoken at the House of Mr Henry Corbusier on Monday the 30th October last.
Its ordered by this Board that the said Vardill do appear at the House of Mr William Mallory in Southampton Tribe on Fryday next being the 10th, of this instant Nov by nine of the clock in the forenoon before John Jennings, Paul Paynter, and Moore Darrell Esq Justices of the Peace to answer the said complaint and the said justices are hereby impowered to summon all such persons (as evidence) shall be nominated to them by the said Robwert Dinwiddie.
It is hereby ordered that the said Burrows doe appear before the Honourable the President in Council at the House of Mrs Eliz. Peniston at the Flatts on Tuesday next by ten of the clock in the forenoon in order to make answer to the said complaint and information and that the said Provost Marshall or his deputy do forthwith serve the said Burrows with this order.
