Minutes of HM Council: 20 April 1687
The following persons sumond vy ye Rt Honble the GoverEs order to attend his Maties Service at St Georges upon ye 20th day ofg Aprill appeared accordingly & were consituted Councellrs receiving their severale oaths, appointed for due performance of their offices.
The Rt Honble The GoverE recoeve ye Oaths of Allegiance
Ordered that ye Sheriff enquires for His Maties Slaves.
Ordered yt Thomas Robinson give securities for his appearance.
Ordered that ye sevrall complaints agt Coll. Cony be read by ye Secretie and offered to next councill as also James Smailes, his peticon (being then read, be till then referred). The Justices for ye sevrale Tribes proposed Mr Arthur Jones for Hamilton Tribe, Capt Willm Peniston for Smiths Tribe, Mr Joseph Darrell for Devon Tribe,
Joseph Stowe for Pembroke Tribe, Fra Jones for Pagett Tribe, Capt John Darrell for Warwick Tribe, Capt Thomas Richards for Southampton Tribe, Sandis Tribe.... St eorges Parish to be left to ye Gover.
Ordered the writs for calling an Assembly be issued out to ye Councell that they in their respective Tribes, may chuse four fitt psons to sett on ye Assembly wth ye parrish vote which is to begin the 6th day June next.
Ordered that ye sevrall named Justices attend next Councell table by notice from Councellrs.
Ordered that ye sevrall Commanders of Companies returne a list of ye names of all their officers and soldiers under their comand and in what condicon they are in as to their armes where of they are not faile to certifie his Honr with in six days.,br>

Whereas a generall complaint hath been made to me of ye great want of oyle throughout ye country I have at ye request of Capt Willm Peniston & his brother Anthony, given leave for their killing of four whales, they reserving his Maties part my custody & future pleasure to determine.
These are therefore to permitt ye said Penistons to imploy two boats wth need full hands for that purpose not killing above foure whales untill further order, and to prohibite all other psons from whaling without my leave & order for ye same given under my hand ye 10th Aprill 1687.

An order also granted to Anthony Joyner & Richd Phillips for ye killing of two whales upon ye above sd termes, as also to John Jauncye & John Dickinson for two whales upon their request to ye Rt Honble The Gover.
