Minutes of HM Council: 6 July 1697

At a council table holden at the Sessions house in St Georges on Tuesday the sixth day of July in the yeare of our Lord 1697. Present:

His Excellency John Goddard Esq Governor Capt Gilbert Nelson Capt Richard Peniston Samuell Spofferth Esq
Coll. William Peniston Capt John Tucker Capt Wm Outerbridge  

The Assembly called and appeared and were ordered to repaire to some convenient place to consider of a Speaker and present him to His Excellency the Governor. Returned by a Committee that the house had made choice of Mr Charles Walker for Speaker which the Governor well approved of. That the whole huse were called and sworne before this board.

On reading the petition and appeale of Jonas Clay, Master of the sloope Happy Jane about the tryall of the same. It is the opinion of this board that the matter doth not concerne this board.

Proposed whether Mr Coll Anthony White and William Davys bee discharged from their recognizances lately entred into by order of the Court of the seaventh of June last by Coll. William Peniston perticular discharge to the said Coll.White. Itt is the opinion of this board that the said Coll White and William Davys are not discharged from their recognizances.
