Minutes of HM Council: 9 August 1686

Att a Councell Table held at St Georges ye 9th day of  August 1686. Then Present:

Capt Geo. StLo sworne councellr.

Thr Rt Honble, ye Gover. having proposed that ye councell should take ye holy sacramt of some Orthodox divine, according to ye church of England, on Wednesday next, it was unanimously consented to by all ye councell, provided they might have a larger and more convenient time for preparacon. Upon ye Rt Honble ye Governor mocon, that there might be a publique hearing by all psons yt would come in, it was accordingly allowed by the Councell yt none should be hindered.

Proclamation being made for Willm Righton, Senr & Willm Milbourne.

The said Righton only appeared.

His Maties letter being publiquely read, relating to ye Rt Honble, ye Govers compalint and also some articles preferred by William Righton Senr & Willm Milbourne, agt ye said Gover. The said Righton offered a paper to ye Court, said to be a copy of a coppy of a letter from his Matie signed by one Burghill, which was throwne out by Councell.

It was put to vote whether ye Rt Honble ye Govers complaint or ye said Rightons articles, should be first proceeded upon, the Councell then consenting of an even number, Mr Ignatious Usher, Lieut of ye Dartmth Frigatt, was sworne Councellr and it was voted yt ye Rt Honble ye Govere should first proceed in ye matter of his complaint.

The Rt Honble ye Gover exhibites his complaint to ye Councell agt Christopher Burroughs, concerning his assaulting of him at St Geo's in ye night with abt 12 or 13 persons more ye sd Burrows passing him twice on ye left side of which he lay sick many weeks etc.

Severall evidences taken uppon oath.
