"Bon jour" in french means (literally) "Good Day" and any day is a "Good Day" for researching your roots.
"Bon Jour" Genealogy Resources is where you will find many other sites to aid in your genealogical research, hopefully ending in your having a "Good Day";)
The Bonjour Line
- The History and Origin of the
Bonjour Surname
Checkout the Italy page for the story of The Waldensians. It closely parallels the above Swiss story.
- Switzerland is among the most important locations for Bonjour research. Contains Swiss genealogical and general links for Switzerland
Italy Like the Bonjour's from Switzerland, those from Italy likewise have suffered from religious persecution during the Reformation. The Bonjour's from Italy are primarily from the Waldensian Church. They were forced from their homes to the valleys of the Piedmont. Both the Swiss and Italian Bonjours trace their roots, and religious beliefs, if not their name, to a movement started by one man, Pierre or Peter Waldo/Valdes/Vaudes of Lyon France. Checkout the Italy page for the story of The Waldensians
France
This space is dedicated to those who hear there
surname first, every day, "Bonjour Monsieur Bonjour" I've heard these jokes all my life, now it's your turn ;)
Illinois
A group of Bonjour's from Switzerland, related to those in Kansas settled in Illinois, Here are links to help in genealogical research.
Indiana
Indiana is where my line comes from. I have yet to prove where they are connected to the Swiss, (Illinois, and Kansas) Bonjours, but many of the others came through Indiana on their way west.
Iowa represents a (currently) small line ofBonjours that came from Corcemont, Switzerland and settled in Iowa.
Kansas
Kansas is where the Bonjour's initially settled, founding the town of Neuchatel, naming it after the Canton (county) in Switzerland that they came from. There is a lot of information on this group.
Michigan
Michigan is where I hail from. My grandparents had a farm near Chesaning Michigan. It was, according to family stories, a trade (sight unseen) for one in Valentine Nebraska. Not much here yet, just a few links to Michigan resources.
My Other Family Genealogies
These are my non-Bonjour lines, Here I am only searching out relations, not the one-name study I am performing on BONJOUR. Of my kids GGGrandparents 10 of 16 are Scots, therefore my
Scottish Resource Collection is growing.
