Family of Thomas Ward and Ann Goodson

Thomas Ward was born in Virginia on 19 August 1761 [1]. Around 1770 his family settled near the Lynches River in an area that later became Darlington and then Florence Co., South Carolina. He was married on 4 Sep 1782 to Ann Goodson. Ann Goodson was born about 1763.

The family sold their land in South Carolina and moved to Conecuh Co., Alabama about 1820.

Ann Goodson Ward died 28 May 1826. Thomas Ward was married secondly to Mrs. Sarah Patrick on 12 Jan 1828. He died 24 Feb 1845.

Wyley Ward states that "it is believed that Ann Goodson was the daughter of William Goodson, and the sister of Thomas Goodson."
2. Source [1] states: "Nothing has been found on Thomas Ward's fifth daughter, Rhoda, except her date of birth given in the Bible. However, there is an unexplained marriage record in Thomas Ward's Bible which states that Arter (Arthur) Goodson was married on December 19, 1822. It is possible that this Arthur Goodson was Rhoda Ward's husband, but no other record has been found to substantiate this supposition." Irene Massey, mmassey430@aol.com, gives:
   Arthur Goodson b 1794 in Darlington District, SC or Ireland, married Rhoda Ward b ca 1797 Darlington District. Died Montgomery Co., TX, Arthur Feb 1863, Rhoda Dec 1869. Children were: James Goodson b 1822-1823 AL; William Walter Goodson b 1824 AL; Edmond Goodson b 1831; Elizabeth "Patsey" Goodson b 1833 AL; John Goodson b 1840 AL.
