Family of John A. Goodson and Nancy Garrett

John A. Goodson was born about 1790 in South Carolina [1]. In 1816 he married Nancy Garrett, daughter of James Garrett Jr. and Dorcas Garrett [4]. Nancy Garrett was born in 1798 in South Carolina and died in 1882. [4]

Rhoda Coleman Ellison's book on the history of Bibb County [5] reveals that John A. Goodson was active in the Baptist church in Bibb County at an early date:

"Hill's settlement, which grew up at headwaters of Hill's and Schultz creeks near the Tuscaloosa line, not far from Johntown today . . . farmlands [there] cleared by . . . John Goodson [and others]"

"Mt. Moriah Baptist Church came into existence in 1827 in Hill settlement . . from origin in Mar 1827, this congregation, led by Rev. Joab Pratt, met in the home of John Goodson until the completion of a house of worship on Goodson's land in June of that year."

John A. Goodson was listed on the patient list of Dr. David R. Boyd in 1829. [5]
