Family of William Washington Burt and Jane E. Leseur
William Washington Burt, son of Zacheus Burt and Elizabeth Burt [5], was born 11 October 1812 [1],[5], presumably in Warren County, Georgia.
On December 13, 1830, William Washington Burt bought lot #144 (202 1/2 acres) in the 17th district (formerly Muscogee County) from Thomas Mahone [5].
William Washington Burt was an early settler of Salem, Russell (now Lee) County, Alabama; he arrived there in 1835 [2]. According to source [2], he was a prosperous farmer, and very active in the community. He gave land for the Methodist Church and Cemetery, and was a member of the Salem Masonic Lodge.
On 13 December 1839, William Washington Burt was married to Jane E. Leseur in Russell County, Alabama [6]. A daughter of Samuel Leseur [6],[7], Jane was born in 1815 [2] or 1816 [1].
The 1840 census index of Russell County records Wm. W. Burt on p. 6; the 1850 census records the household of Wm. Burt living in Beat #4 (p. 36).

Jane Leseur died in 1863 [1],[2] and is buried in the Methodist Cemetery at Salem, Lee County, Alabama.
Confederate service record cards at the Alabama Department of Archives and History record that W. W. Burt, private, aged 52, enlisted 13 August 1864 in David Read's Russell County Reserves, Co. D Alabama 1st Class Militia (Home Guard).
William Washington Burt died 28 Jan 1888 and is buried in the Methodist Church Cemetery at Salem, Lee County, Alabama [1],[5].

- According to [3], Richard Washington Pruitt was the son of Moses Yarbrough Pruitt and Elizabeth M. T. Burt (daughter of Richard and Margaret Burt). Moses Yarbrough Pruitt was a Methodist minister and is buried in the Salem Methodist Church Cemetery. According the History of Upson County, Georgia by Carolyn Walker Nottingham and [3], Moses Yarbrough Pruitt was the son of Austin Pruitt and Nancy Yarbrough. He was born in Warren Co., GA 4 May 1804, and married as his first wife Elizabeth M. T. Burt (b. 1810) in Putnam Co., GA 6 Jan 1831. They had the following children: Margaret A., Frances A. E., Richard Washington, John W., Mary E., Theresa Caroline, Moses S., and Eliza Burt Pruitt. Moses Y. Pruitt secondly married Edna Sawyer, and had the following: Tapley Hodnet, Rebecca Winfield, Wilson Sawyer, Sterling Pitts, and Samuel Yarborough Pruitt. (Note: a Sterling Pitts married Emily Elizabeth Burt, daughter of Zacheus Burt and Elizabeth Burt).
