Father A. J. Ryan Camp 302
Sons of Confederate Veterans
San Diego, California

Sons of Confederate Veterans of California is a historical organization dedicated to preserving the history and good name of the Confederate soldier, sailor and marine. Our organization has no racial component whatsoever, expressed or implied. All Confederate descendants are eligible and welcome to join, regardless of color, politics, national origin or religion. The San Diego Chapter regularly cooperates and meets with other heritage organizations such as the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, the Sons of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Meetings are usually held every two months on the third Saturday of the month, with some exceptions for special events and reenactments. Camp A. J. Ryan is one of several camps of SCV California.
Our camp is named after the Poet Laureate of the Confederacy, Father A. J. Ryan.

Abraham Lincoln once asked General (Winfield) Scott the question: "Why is it that you were once able to take the City of Mexico in three months with five thousand men, and we have been unable to take Richmond with one hundred thousand men?"
"I will tell you," said General Scott. "The men who took us into the City of Mexico are the same men who are keeping us out of Richmond."
