Mary
Jane Plummer
by David Plummer
Mary Jane Plummer married Hiram Lewis Allen in what is now Plumerville, Arkansas in 1849. In 1852 they left Arkansas for California. Along the way their first born child died very close to his second birthday and was buried in the Rocky Mountains. They arrived in California and settled in Sutter's Creek. According to family tradition, Mary Jane gave birth to the first Caucasian child born in Amador County on October 15, 1852. This child was named Alexander Sutter Allen. Hiram Allen was a miner for many years. They migrated south to the Glennville area in 1866. Mary Jane was instrumental in forming what is known as Linn Valley, which was a little settlement about a mile from Glennville. Mary Jane died on April 11, 1911.
