The Lodge Library

Baltic Lodge started a library of books and other materials of Scandinavian interest in 2005. The Goeske Center allowed us to place a small cupboard in the room where we meet.

In the beginning, the library contained only donated materials and books belonging to members.

Recently the need for new materials was discussed at a business meeting, and funds were allocated to the library.

New acquisitions include one Finnish and four Swedish mysteries:

Faceless Killers and The Return of the Dancing Master, by Henning Mankell, are set in Sweden, as are Åsa Larsson’s Sun Storm and Helen Tursten’s The Torso. The thriller Ice Moon, by Jan Costin Wagner, is set in Finland.

Don Lago

On the Viking Trail:  Travels in Scandinavian America

New non-fiction books in the library include On the Viking Trail, by Don Lago. who began by visiting his ancestral hometown Gränna in Sweden, and then went on to explore Scandinavian settlements in America. In an amusing and observant style, he depicts Nordic immigrants in the wider context of American culture.

Hans J. Wollstein

Strangers in Hollywood:  The History of Scandinavian Actors in American Films

In Strangers in Hollywood, Hans J. Wollstein tells the stories of early Swedish, Danish and Norwegian actors in Hollywood in the period from 1910 to the beginning of World War II, not only of famous ones like Greta Garbo and Sonia Henie, but also of many lesser known Scandinavian cinema personalities.

We want our Lodge library to have something of interest to all members, so please tell me at a meeting what kinds of books and videos you would like to see there, or call me at 909-939-0143, or send me an

The materials are available at social and business meetings.
