JOIN THE DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION
Do
you have a Revolutionary Patriot in your family tree? Consider
membership in the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution
(NSDAR), a volunteer women's service organization that honors and preserves the legacy of our Patriot ancestors.
The DAR gives prospective members an opportunity for
service in many areas. It is a way to join with other members in
trying to make America a better place in which to live. It offers
encouragement to become active in the community, to assist in historic
preservation, to help preserve important documents and records of the
past. It offers an opportunity to meet new people with similar
interests, develop friendships, and to join with others in promoting
the ideals of patriotism and love of country. It offers an
incentive to become involved in conservation of our natural resources
and to make a difference by doing so. It also offers an
opportunity to work with the youth of this great country through the
educational programs offered by the NSDAR. Take a video tour of Today's DAR on YouTube.
Did you know that Clara Barton, founder and
president of the American Red Cross, was a member of DAR? Susan
B. Anthony, the well-known suffragette, and Grandma Moses, the famous
painter, were also members. Other famous DAR members include a
U.S. Navy Admiral; a female astronaut; a past Attorney General; a past
Secretary of the Treasury; a U.S. Senator; a former U.S. Congresswoman;
as well as the wives of many Presidents of the United States of America.
Eligibility:
Any
woman regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background,
is eligible for membership who is at least eighteen years of age and
can prove lineal, blood line descent from an ancestor who aided in
achieving American independence. You must provide documentation for
each statement of birth, marriage, and death. Helpful hints for
obtaining documentation are available on the National website.
You may attend our Chico Chapter meetings as our guest while you are still completing your DAR application. Please contact our regent, our registrar, or a current Chico Daughter for more information.
For more information on joining the DAR, please visit the National Website,
where downloadable forms and worksheets, helpful hints, and patriot
lookup services are just a few of the many items that can be found
there.
