QUOTATION:

It is a revered thing to see an ancient castle or building not in decay. Or see a fair timely tree sound and perfect. How much more to behold an ancient family which hath stood against waves and weather of time.

— Sir Francis Bacon

Welcome to the California State Website.  The first California organization meeting for Colonial Dames 17th Century was held in Los Angeles in 1948.  In June 1949 56 members met at the home of Mrs. George Kingman in Alhambra to elect officers and receive the charter.  Mrs. French Harrington of Los Angeles was the first Organizing State President. The State Meeting in 1949 saw the organization of two chapters; Plymouth in Alhambra and San Diego Chapter (now Crown Colony). Since that time we have grown to almost 600 members in 18 chapters statewide. Many of our chapters have been in meeting for over 50 years! Our members serve Veterans at Veteran's Hospitals, volunteer for Operation Gratitude, mark and preserve historic sites and award scholarships to young women.  In addition, California ladies promote heraldry to honor their Armorial Ancestors. Our National Society will be celebrating 100 years in 2015. Please help us celebrate by visiting our chapter link page. One of our chapters in your area would be happy to assist you in locating your 17th Century Ancestor.                          Cher Bucknam
