Subject: FREE New Family Tree Analyzer

This week we've released an interesting new feature: family tree statistics.

It's a completely free feature that analyzes your family tree and displays 45 enlightening statistics using beautiful graphs, charts and maps, including:

• what are the most common first names in your family
• where were your family members born
• what's the life expectancy for men and women in your family
• what are the most common birth months and zodiac signs
• at what age do people marry in your family
• and much more

You'll also find many anecdotes, like the top families where the husband or wife are much older than their spouse, the people who married youngest or oldest, had the most children, the shortest marriages that didn't make it, the families where the age difference between first and last child are the highest, and much more.

Check out how the statistics look on my own family tree which I've made public.

If you are using our Family Tree Builder software, but have not published your tree into a private family site, you cannot yet enjoy these free statistics.

By publishing your tree from Family Tree Builder, you will get the family statistics plus the following benefits:

• You get backups. Publishing prepares a secure backup of your family tree and your photos, which you can restore at any time.
• You remain in full control. You can delete the family tree that you have published into your online family site, in 2 clicks, at any time, keeping only a copy on your computer.
• Full privacy. You decide who can see the tree and who cannot. By default all living people in your tree are hidden from strangers.
• Perfect showcase for your family history research. A family tree is a great project but less beneficial if nobody but you in your family can see it.
• Nobody can change your tree except you. But other family members will be able to email you corrections and send you more photos of the tree members.
• Better Smart Matches™.
• Birthday reminders sent to you by email.
• A private place you can use to keep in touch with members of your family.
• Automatic tagging of photos, slideshows for photo albums, and many other features not available in Family Tree Builder.

Publishing can be done by opening your tree in Family Tree Builder and clicking 'Publish' on the main bar. A published tree can be deleted by going to 'Manage family trees' page on your family site.

Publishing is free if your family tree has less than 250 people in it. It is still free even if your family tree is bigger, but only 250 people will be published, so you can publish for free and try out the result to see if you like it, without paying anything. There are subscription plans for publishing larger family trees, and in return you will also get a Premium version of Family Tree Builder that has more features.

Why do we encourage publishing? Because we want MyHeritage.com to be a lively site where families keep in touch with their members.

Publish your family tree, check out the new family tree statistics and all the other features mentioned, and get much more out of your genealogy hobby. For any question, you can email me directly or contact our friendly customer service staff at support@myheritage.com.

Subject: Project makes old SC newspapers available online

The Associated Press

CHARLESTON — Old news will be new again with a project the University of South Carolina is starting to put newspapers published between 1860 and 1922 into a computer database.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports the university's libraries have obtained a $350,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities for the project.

Digital librarian Kate Boyd says the project will scan 100,000 pages of old South Carolina newspapers and make them available through the Library of Congress' database.

The first phase should be ready by 2011, the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

Boyd says an advisory board will select more than a dozen newspapers to start the project. The university plans to create a Web site for the South Carolina newspapers that is separate from the Library of Congress site.

Recently the Carlsbad City Library performed some maintenance on the patron database. Patrons who have not checked out library material since 2004 were removed from the system and this included patrons who use their cards to access the Library's online databases but have not checked out materials since 2004. The Library apologizes for the inconvenience and encourages you to reapply for a library card.

Subject: Genealogy Classes in Lemon Grove

The Lemon Grove Library has Genealogy classes the first and third Wed of every month. They meet in the Conference area or sometimes out in the library at a table. The meeting time is 6 PM until 7:45 PM.

Many topics have been covered over the years. If a topic is not pertinent we do Brick Wall assistance to help move an attendees genealogy block. This event is done quite often. My favorite way of an evening is to do a small presentation and then move to assist those whom are lost on where to go next, what to garner and whom to contact the second part of evening. Sometimes the presentation gets engaging and we spend the entire evening on the topic.

The classes are open to Beginners, Intermediate or Advanced researchers. We welcome teenagers who are working on school projects or their own work. We would love to work with teachers whom would like to know more about where their students can gain information.

Topics that can be discussed are: Immediate Family Records, Distant Family Knowledge, Land Records, Wills, Deeds, Tax Lists, Obituaries, Bible Records, Medical Knowledge, PERSI, World Cat, County History records, Maps, Migration, and the ever proverbial Census records (they have many errors or completely missed ancestors).

As a member of the Chula Vista Genealogical Society, San Diego Genealogical Society, and the National Genealogical Society and others, our members or myself, are available to come and talk to your school class on many topics.

I can be reached through the Library or the genealogical society's web page or my webpage. One of my webpages is: http://www.ourfamilyhistories.com/
