Page 270. lives four miles from Florin---her Post Office---and twelve miles from Sacramento; she was born in the State of New York in 1838; when quite young she moved with parents to Iowa and remained there until 1853 when they came across the plains to California. She was married in September, 1853, to Jackson J. Bates, also a native of New York; they settled in San Joaquin County and lived there until the fall of 1855; they then moved to Amador County, and resided there until fall of 1857; they settled in this county in that year, and moved to present location in 1870; she owns four hundred acres of land, worth, with improvements, about $6000.
