Post Office, Walsh Station; lives eight miles from Elk Grove, and fourteen miles from Sacramento; was born in Michigan in 1836; in 1846 he moved with his parents to Illinois, and lived there until 1848, when he removed to Iowa, and remained there until 1851; he came to California in that year, across the Plains; was engaged in mining in El Dorado and Tuolumne Counties for about eight years; he then settled in this county, and has been farming ever since; he owns 640 acres of land, worth, with improvements, about $6000. Mr. Birch has held the office of School Trustee for the last eight years. He was married in 1860 to Miss R. J. Campbell; they have four children---one boy and three girls.
