Page 276. farmer and dairyman; lives near the Freeport road, three and one-half miles from Sacramento, his Post Office; owns three hundred and twenty acres of land, valued at about $20,000; born in Ireland in 1824, and emigrated to America in 1834; lived in Boston and Andover, Massachusetts, where he engaged in farming until 1849; then came to this State, via Cape Horn; arrived in San Francisco March 1, 1850; followed mining at Mormon Island for about two years; then came to Sacramento. In 1854, moved to the place where he now resides; he is engaged in farming and the dairy business; for the last twenty years has been making butter. Married Miss Sarah Chandler in 1848; she is a native of Roxbury, Massachusetts; they have one son, having lost one daughter. A view of his place is given on another page.
