Page 276. farmer and stock-raiser; lives two and one-half miles from Sacramento, his Post Office ; owns one hundred and sixty-eight acres of land, valued at $8,000; born in 1827, in Ireland, where he engaged in farming; in 1847, came to America, and settled in Brooklyn, and came to California in 1849, by the way of the Isthmus; followed mining on the American River, between Mormon Island and Salmon Falls, for about three months; then devoted his services to a private hospital, in Sacramento, for eighteen months; in 1851, moved to the place where he now resides; he devotes his time to farming, fruit-growing, stock-raising, and dairy business; married Miss Ann Doyle in 1851; she was born in Ireland; they have seven daughters.
