Campbell, the Superintendent and Secretary of the San Jose Agricultural Works, was born in Jackson county, Illinois, November 29, 1866. He was educated in the public and high school in Illinois and Colorado, coming to San Jose some nine years ago. He mastered his trade in the San Jose Agricultural Works, while it was under the charge of Chris Bergestrom, and for the past six years has held the responsible position he now occupies. On the 16th of July, 1891, Mr. Campbell was married to Miss Grace Valpey. He is an active church-worker being an elder in the First Presbyterian Church of this city. Mr. Campbell naturally takes a great pride in the San Jose Agricultural Works, which is one of the largest manufacturing enterprises in the county, and which under his able management is now established on a solid paying basis. The capital is $50,000, and the institution is backed by some of our strongest and best citizens. Its value to the county can hardly be over estimated, as their trade extends over the entire Coast, and local consumers find in it a convenient and prompt source of supplies for all the demands peculiar to our fruit interests. From the Commerative Edition January 1, 1892, San Jose Daily Mercury contributed by jchavnar MEN WE ALL KNOW Biographical Sketches of Well-Known San Joseans THE STORY OF THEIR SUCCESS.
