	Post Office, Hicksville; lives two miles from that town, and twenty 
miles from Sacramento; was born in Tennessee in 1818; removed to Missouri 
in 1832, and lived there until 1853, engaged in farming; he came to California 
in that year and settled on the ranch where he now lives: owns eight hundred 
acres of land, worth, with improvements, about twenty thousand dollars. He was 
married in 1844 to Miss H. Kerby, a native of East Tennessee; they have four 
children---one son and three daughters.
