	Post Office, Brighton; lives seven miles south-east of 
Sacramento; was born in Wales in 1821; emigrated to the United States in 1850, 
and lived in Illinois until 1854, engaged in mining coal; in that year he went 
to Utah, and followed farming until 1856; he then came to California, and 
settled in this county; camped three months on Bowles Island, and hauled logs to 
the Brighton Mill; he has been farming ever since on the place where he now 
lives; owns four hundred and fifty acres, worth, with improvements, about 
$20,000. Mr. D. was married in 1847 to Miss Ann Morgan, also a native of Wales; 
they have three sons and a daughter.
