Page 272. lives 12 miles from Sacramento and two miles from Elk Grove---his Post Office; was born in New Brunswick in 1821, and lived there until 1837, when he removed with his parents to Ohio, and remained there until 1843; in that year he went to Quincy, Illinois, and read law with O. H. Browning and N. Bushnell until 1845; he then moved to Porter County, Indiana, and engaged in the practice of law and farming until 1860. In April of that year he started across the plains with horse-team, and arrived in California in September. He settled at once in this county, on his present place; he has been engaged principally in farming and stock-raising ever since he came to the State; owns eight hundred acres of land, worth with improvements about $15,000. Mr. Dixon was married in 1854 to Miss Martha Biggart, a native of Ohio, who bore him three sons, two of whom are living; she died in 1875. He was married again in August, 1877, to Mrs. Julia A. Hall, a native of New Brunswick. A view of his place is given elsewhere. Source: History of Sacramento County, California With Illustrations 1880 by Thompson & West.
