Page 283. wholesale and retail grocer, corner Sixteenth and J streets, Sacramento; was born in Ireland in 1828, and came to St. Louis, Missouri, via New Orleans, in 1847; in 1853 came overland to California, and mined at Placerville until 1857; returned to St. Louis, where he married, and with wife came to Sacramento. After two years of a mercantile life, moved to Auburn, Placer County, and sold goods there for sixteen years; came back to Sacramento, and established in present location in 1869. Married Kate Geary in 1857, who was born in Ireland in 1840. There were born to them eight children, six of whom are now living: Mary, born in Sacramento, September 15, 1858; Edward, born in Auburn, July 27, 1864; William L., born in Auburn, May 20, 1866; George, born in Auburn, July 7, 1868; Emma, born in Sacramento, November 17, 1872; Frank, born in Sacramento, September 14, 1875.
