ENOS Transcribed by: Nancy Pratt Melton This file is part of the California Genealogy & History Archives http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cagha/index.htm BRIGHTON TOWNSHIP Page 247 Lives seven miles southeast of Sacramento; was born in Vermont, in 1813; removed to New York, in 1829, and clerked in a dry-goods store until 1833, when he went to sea, as super-cargo, on ship Washones; he was thus engaged until 1836; in that year he returned to Vermont, and remained until 1837; he then moved to Illinois, and was engaged in farming and merchandising there until 1852; he had a store in Wisconsin at the same time. He came to California, across the Plains, in 1852, and followed mining and merchandising, on Indian Creek, for two winters, spending the summers in Sacramento; he has been engaged in farming for the last twenty years; owns eighty acres, worth, with improvements, about five thousand dollars. He was married, in 1840, to Miss E. J. Foote, a native of New York; they have living, one son and three daughters. Mr. E. held the office of Deputy Assessor, under Dray.
