ESCOBAR was born in Monterey, California, January, 10, 1848, son of Jose Mario Escobar and Ascension, nee Beronda. He had to struggle for himself in early life, his father having died when he was quite young, and found employment on the Laureles and Buena Vista ranches. He is now engaged in farming and stock-raising, and lives on his own ranch in the Malarin precinct, better known as the Limekiln, seven miles north of Gonzales. April 18, 1881, he was united in marriage with Miss Amanda Cantur, and their union has been blessed with one child.
