FITCH Transcribed by: Nancy Pratt Melton This file is part of the California Genealogy & History Archives http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cagha/index.htm BRIGHTON TOWNSHIP Page 248 Post Office, Walsh Station; lives nine miles from Sacramento, on the Jackson road; was born in Ohio, in 1820, and lived there until 1850, engaged in teaching school. He came to California in that year, across the Plains, and stopped awhile in El Dorado county; he subsequently moved to Nevada county; settled in this county December, 1850, and engaged in farming: owns two hundred and forty-six acres of land, worth, with improvements, about $4,000. He was married in 1856 to Miss Lucy Fobes, also a native of Ohio; they raised two children. His wife died December 1, 1877. Mr. Fitch has always manifested a keen interest in educational matters; held the office of School Director for about seventeen years. He also held the office of Justice of Peace for five years.
