Page 272. , lives fifteen miles from Sacramento, and three from Elk Grove, his Post Office. He was born in Butler County, Ohio, in 1815, and moved to the Territory of Iowa in 1838; he moved to Illinois, near the Mississippi River, in 1850. In 1861, he moved with his family to California, for the benefit of his health. Mr. Freeman has always been engaged in farming, and now owns eight hundred and eleven acres of land, valued at $35,000. January 30, 1842, he married Miss Nancy Clark, a native of Ohio, who died in 1858, leaving one son, Abe C. Freeman, now attorney - at - law, Sacramento. He was again married, in September, 1859, to Miss A. M. Ludington, a native of Oswego County, New York. A view of Mr. Freeman's place is given elsewhere in this work.
