	Was born in New Jersey in October, 1844. In 1845 he, with his 
parents, went to Pennsylvania, where he lived till 1870, when he moved to 
Wisconsin, where he engaged in farming till 1879. In October of that year he 
came to California and located at Westport, Mendocino county, where he is 
engaged with his brother James in the mercantile business.
