Page 255 lives at Galt, his Post Office. He was born three miles from new territory, at what was called �Platt Purchase,� in 1827, where he remained till 1846, engaged in farming. In 1852 he moved to Fremont County, Iowa. July 4, 1847, Mr. Fugitt enlisted in a battalion of Missouri mounted volunteers, and was ordered to California. They came to Fort Laramie and then returned. Mr. Fugitt came to California in 1852, and settled in San Joaquin County where he remained till 1875, when he moved to Sacramento County. In 1849 he married Miss Elizabeth M. Williams, a native of Missouri, by whom he has had four children, one boy and three girls. Mr. Fugitt has held the offices of Postmaster (at Liberty, California), Notary Public and Deputy Assessor.
