Page 283-284. of Green & Trainor, proprietors of the Empire Market, Sacramento, was born in Ireland in 1830. In 1844 he crossed the water to New York City, and engaged in butchering until 1852, and then came to California, via Nicaragua. He spent eight months in San Francisco and then came to Sacramento. In 1855 he formed the present partnership, and located at the present stand. The firm has an extensive stock and grain ranch of nine thousand acres. Mr. Green married Miss Alice Toland, in December, 1858, a native of Ireland. They have had eight children, of whom four daughters and two sons are living. Mr. Green was twice Mayor of the city, and for six years a member of the Board of Directors State Agricultural Society.
